Beijing, September 30th—The Silk Road Think Tank Association (SRTA) and the Renmin University of China co- hosted the International Symposium on Developing the Belt and Road Initiative & Global Governance in Beijing. Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and Co-Chairman of the SRTA Council attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Guo said that the world is at a crucial stage of great development, transformation and adjustment at present. In recent years, President Xi Jinping has put forward a series of new concepts and propositions regarding to major problems and challenges of global governance. The Belt and Road Initiative is one of the important innovations, which highlights the equality of governance body, the openness of governance platform, the inclusiveness of governance mechanism and the public benefit of the governance outcome, and blazes a new path for, gives fresh impetus to, explores new modes of as well as provides new concepts for global governance. It will surely guide the development direction of global governance.
Danilo Türk, former President of Slovenia; Essam Sharaf, former Prime Minister of Egypt; Djoomart Kaipovich Otorbaev, former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan; Liu Wei, President of Renmin University of China; Long Guoqiang, Vice President of the Development Research Center of the State Council and others were present at the symposium. Over 300 current and former politicians, think-tank scholars and representatives from the industrial and business circles conducted discussions centering on 3 topics including “Opportunities and Challenges of Global Governance in the New Situation”, “Belt and Road, New Innovative Path of Global Governance”, and “Relationship between Belt and Road Initiative and Current Existing Global Governance Mechanism”.
